Diners

Our menus offer good freshly cooked food using only the finest of local ingredients. Local fish, meat and game or vegetarian together with home made soups, a selection of puddings and the very finest of English cheese, all add up to an enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Built in the 1860's this small licensed Country House still retaining many of its original features and charm, once changed hands over a game of cards and has offered the discerning guest shelter, good food and hospitality since the 1920's when the Crocker family started to let rooms.

These days friendly service and comfortable surroundings together with log fires whenever the weather is cool, all compliment the house which enjoys the benefit of easy access on to Dartmoor from the two acres of moorland gardens.

A stroll to Widgery Cross before breakfast, perhaps followed by a relaxed hour or so in the grounds can do much to unwind and refresh those wanting to get away from it all.

The views to the western horizon stretch as far as Bodmin Moor and the sunsets are a sight to behold.

Croquet and Boules are available during the summer months.

The public rooms and the 4 Double letting bedrooms are tastefully furnished with family antiques, and, for the musically inclined there is a choice of three pianos together with plenty of books, board games and jigsaws for amusement.

It is argued that Dartmoor’s greatest publist was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with The Hound of the Baskervilles, but Lydford goes back centuries with its castle dating from 1195, the famous Lydford Gorge, and the legendary Gubbins tribe who lived in its caves during Cromwell's day.

The Victorian author Eden Philpotts wrote the long running play "A Farmers Wife" whilst staying at Moor View.

Moor View is an ideal resting place and watering hole for walkers, letterboxers and naturalists.

Riding, golf, fishing, shooting and gliding are all available locally. Guided walks are available between March and October.

The hotel's situation makes for easy access to both North and South Devon coasts as well as the many National Trust properties and the old stannary town of Tavistock, but, of course, most of all Dartmoor - the last wilderness in southern England.

The now farmous Eden Project is within a comfortable drive

Why not rest a while, savour our table, and hospitality, and relax in good company.

Should you have a special celebration, formal or informal, tell us your requirements and we will endeavour to provide that sense of individuality and occasion.
