Oakburn Leisure, Pitlochry, Atholl Road, 7KPitlochry is snuggled in the heart of Highland Perthshire in a rain shadow (80 mm.p.a.)

The name Pitlochry derives from Pit cloich aire (place of the sentinel stone) tracing back to 208 AD at a time when the Picts were the ruling force and the Romans were dominating England.

Legend has it that the Romanscamped beside the River Tummel in an area submerged, now Loch Faskally, called Dalchampaig (Field of the Camp), but it was not until Victorian times and, in fact, when Queen Victoriaherself visited the Duke of Atholl at Blair Castle. It was then that Pitlochry began to find its prominence as a Highland Retreat for the nobiltity and successful Jute and Tea Barons of Dundee and Edinburgh, then the coming of the Perth to Inverness Railway (1863)- hence the grandeur of the many dwellings nowprestigous hotels, guest houses and in our case the silver granite built OakbankBed & Breakfast (circa 1873) with all the up to date comforts.
