Oaklands is a spacious detached Edwardian villa built in 1910 as a home for the Young family, Boot Manufacturers of Laurieston.

The house is built in an elevated position on the Antonine Mound which dates back to Roman occupation in AD 143. This ancient fortification was built by Antoninous Pius and stretched from Old Kilpatrick on the River Clyde to Bo'ness on the River Forth, a distance of 60 kilometres. The famous wall is easily visible at Callendar House just along the road from our B&B in Falkirk.

There are records of habitation in Laurieston, or 'Happy Valley' as it was known, since 1765, and the land on which Oaklands now stands bounded property owned by the Marquess of Zetland.

The house retains many of the period features of the time including a magnificent stained glass window which depicts the Falls of Lennie, north of Callendar. Evidence of the 'art nouveau' style of the period exemplified by the work of the Scottish artist Charles Rennie Macintosh is to be found in this window, and in the magnificent oak dresser in the dining room, while fireplaces in living room and dining room have been installed to reflect the period.

Full Scottish or Continental breakfast is served in the magnificent dining room whose pine floors have been recently uncovered and restored, and which features a 10' long Victorian oak dining table dating back to the 1880's.

Owners Helen and Andrew Bruce warmly welcome all visitors to their unique home which offers top quality accommodation in Falkirk.

Terms & Conditions
Please note that we request a minimum stay of 2 nights on bookings between April and October and reserve the right to determine whether to accept a booking for one night only at other times.

While our website has an online booking facility it is always much better to email or telephone to discuss booking arrangements. We do not ask for a deposit up front as we take people on trust. However, we do very much appreciate early notice of any cancellation since we may then be able to re-let the room.

Guests are welcome to check in any time after 4pm. (If you are arriving on an early morning flight into Edinburgh or Glasgow airports, do feel free to contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.)

We do ask guests to vacate their rooms by 10am on departure days. (Again, if this is a problem for connecting flights we shall be happy to discuss arrangements with you.)

If you have special requests do feel free to ask; we have been happy to accommodate small wedding groups with photograph opportunities in the gardens, for example.

We are a strictly No Smoking establishment at all times.

Location
Oaklands B&B in Falkirk is superbly situated for both city and rural pursuits. Two miles from the town of Falkirk, and less than 30 minutes from Glasgow, Edinburgh (the airport is just 20 minutes), and Stirling, the Gateway to the Highlands, Laurieston can truly be said to be in the centre of Scotland.

Access is easy, with the M9 motorwary (Junction 5) just minutes away, and Polmont Station with its direct rail links to all three cities very close by.

From Falkirk to Laurieston, take the A803 out of Falkirk straight into Laurieston. This road becomes Polmont Road. We are number 32 (name and number on the gate posts) on the left hand side of the road.

Taxis run regularly from Polmont Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston stations which are all on the main Glasgow-Edinburgh railway line.

We are happy to arrange collection from airport or stations if possible.
