Luxury accommodation in the heart of Scotland

Hello, I'm Molly. Yes that's me in the doorway! The Pend, Dunkeld, Front Door, 10K

The Pend, Dunkeld, Molly, 5K Now I'd better tell you a bit about me. I'm a Westie - which is short for West Highland White Terrier.

I live at The Pend with my Mum and Dad, Marina and Peter, and I'm in charge of looking after guests, showing them where everything is and taking them for guided walks and things. I like the walks best because I usually get to chase the ducks down by the river - woof woof!I'm multi-lingual - so it doesn't matter where you come from - you can understand what I say............ (I mean) "bark". Mum & Dad tell me it's because I've got a pedigree - whatever that is?Oh... I can also type and play the bodhran (Irish drum) like my dad as well!

Come on in and let me show you around our house and tell you what we do.

This is one of our bedrooms.

We have a mix of three single/double or double/twin/family rooms. They aren't en suite but are tastefully decorated and furnished using many fine antiques and ornaments.
The Pend, Dunkeld, Bedroom, 10K

The rooms are comprehensively equipped with wash-hand basin, mirror, shaver socket, hospitality tray, towels, luxury bathrobes and colour TV. There are two large bathrooms for the use of our guests.

The Pend, Dunkeld, Sitting and Dining Room, 11KThis is our sitting and dining room. It's really cosy when the fire is on. Our guests eat at the big table and sometimes they talk so much I think they will never finish. Dad normally cooks breakfasts and Mum does the dinners. My Granny taught her how to cook on the farm they had in County Kildare, Ireland.

Breakfast is when you like it, within reason, and dinner starts at 19.30. It's a four course Table d'hôte menu using the rich variety of fish, meat, game, fruit, vegetables, cheeses and traditional culinary traditions of Perthshire and Scotland. We only use the best local provisions and suppliers. I like the butcher best because he always brings me a big bone to chew.

For the last two years we have been awarded Taste of Scotland recognition at 4 Star - Dad as well! We can manage fine if you have particular dietary needs as long as we know in advance.

This year we won the Johansens "Wine List of the Year" award out of all the Recommended Country Houses and Small Hotels in the UK and Ireland.

Nestled by the banks of the River Tay, amid stunning scenery, sits Dunkeld. You can almost feel the history in the atmosphere as you walk around what was once the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland. The Pend, Dunkeld, View of Building by River Tay, 8K

Around the year 700 followers of St Columba founded a monastery in Dunkeld. In 878 the bones of St Columba were moved here from Iona for safety and remained until 1560. The Cathedral, now standing on the site of the former monastery, was started in 1318 and completed in 1448.During the bloody time of the Reformation the Cathedral was destroyed, but partially re-roofed in 1600 when it became a kirk. In the wake of the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689 most of the town was burned to ashes during fighting between Jacobite and Government forces. The Dukes of Atholl rebuilt Dunkeld in the 18-1900s.

Perthshire is the garden county of Scotland. It's scenery ranges from luxuriant valleys to high craggy peaks and is a mecca for people who love the outdoors. For the sportsman, we have extensive contacts with the highland estates and can accommodate and organise hunting, shooting and fishing parties.

The city of Perth lies 12 miles to the south. Further afield, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Inverness are all within easy reach of Dunkeld.
