The Isle of Mull has a population of about two thousand six hundred and sixty six. During the summer months the Isle of Mull is very popular with tourists. Most of the population on the island are located within the area that is known as Tobermory. Tobermory was the only burgh on the island up until 1973. Tobermory is the capital of the Isle of Mull. The Isle of Mull has been an inhabited island since 6000 BC and the inhabitants from the Bronze Age built the stone circle, brochs and also the menhirs.
There is a strong education network within the island and this is made up of a good number of primary schools and one secondary school. The pupils that live on the southern part of the island between Fionnaphort and Bunnessan attend the secondary school that is located in Oban on the mainland and they board at the school between Monday and Thursday. The other pupils on the island attend the secondary school in Tobermory.
The Isle of Mull has a coastline that stretches for about four hundred and eighty kilometres and it has a very moderate climate due to the Gulf Stream.
