The English town of Sale is located within the borough of Trafford which is itself located in Greater Manchester. The town was historically part of the county of Cheshire. The town is located on the flat grounds, which are actually the banks of the River Mersey. The town is located about two miles to the south of Stretford, about two and a half miles to the north east of the town of Altrincham and also about five miles to the south west of Manchester.

The River Mersey is prone to flooding especially during heavy rain therefore the Water Park that is located to the north of the town acts as an emergency flood basin. The park is man made and therefore is more controllable. The canal, which is known as Bridgewater, runs through the centre of the town of Sale.

The town of Sale has a population of about fifty five thousand. The census that was taken locally showed that there were more females living in the town than there were males. Most of the adult population living within the town were married.

Most of the town of Sale are employed full time and there are only a small percentage of people that are unemployed. During the medieval times most of the land around the town was used for growing crops and rearing cattle and other livestock. The food that was produced from the crops would have been used locally however the livestock would have been sold to the higher classes. The main source of employment within the town of Sale up until the middle part of the nineteenth century was agriculture.
