Sherbone, located in Dorset, is a market town situated on the River Yeo. The town, which is fairly affluent, is located on the A30, making it easy to access. The town of Sherborne was once made the capital of Wessex and it was also named as one of only seven Saxon kingdoms within England. The elder brothers of King Alfred that were known as King Ethelbald and King Ethelbert are buried within the abbey.

The town of Sherborne has a very strong educational network. The public school that is known as King Edwards dates back to 1550 and it was the school that King Alfred was educated at, however it has been refounded since this time. This public school is more commonly known as Sherborne School.
