Edinburgh Town Guide, Hopetoun House, 6K

Hopetoun is situated several miles from Edinburgh, just to the west of South Queensferry.

Nevertheless, it is well worth a visit for the house is regarded by many to be amongst the best-preserved stately homes in the whole of Scotland.

Edinburgh Town Guide, The House, 1K The mansion was built in the early 18th century by the same architect that built the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It was then further modified into the elegant house that you see today.

The interior is equally impressive with an excellent collection of 18th century furniture and soft furnishings. There is also a superb art collection, which includes pieces by prominent artists Gainsborough and Raeburn.

In addition the grounds of Hopetoun House are beautiful with some stunning views across the Firth of Forth.

Hopetoun House is open daily between April and October. Entry to the grounds and the house costs around £4.50 for adults.
