Edinburgh Town Guide |
As Edinburgh grew in the 18th and 19th centuries, it gradually absorbed several surrounding towns and villages into its boundaries, one such village being Liberton.
|
Liberton is situated to south east of the city centre close to Craigmillar Castle. The name is believed to be a corruption of "Lepertown" for a leper's hospital that was once situated here. The hospital has long since closed, and now Libertown is more well known for its pretty parish church. |
