Charlton District

SE7

Charlton is the district of south-east London that lies on the south bank of the River Thames just to the east of Greenwich.

The area has been settled since before the Roman occupation of Britain, and was initially known as Cerletone. The district remained a rural area until the expansion of London in the 19th century swallowed it up.

Nevertheless Charlton retains a village feel to it with the centre of the district still being the parish church and village green. The district is mainly residential, and is probably best known for Charton Athletic Football Club.
