Neasden District

This part of north-west London is situated between just west of Cricklewood and Kilburn.
It remained a tiny rural hamlet consisting of only half a dozen homes right up until the 1880s. The area then began to expand once the Metropolitan Railway reached the district and lots of railway workers' cottages were built in the area.
Then in the 1920s the North Circular Road was built and the district became so typically suburban that the name Neasden has come to represent British suburbia, satirised by both Monty Python and Private Eye.
However, all is not lost - one of the most surprising buildings in the district is the unlikely Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu temple.
