Speakers Corner

Cumberland Gate, Nr Marble, Arch SW1
Nearest Tube: Marble Arch

The northeast corner of Hyde Park, known as Speakers Corner, has been the place where orators can voice their concerns since 1872.

Previously there had been no right to assembly, but in 1855 there was a series of illegal demonstrations held in this corner of Hyde Park. As a result Speakers Corner was established which grant the right to assembly on this spot.

The basic format is that every Sunday anyone can speak about any topic they like, so long as they are not obscene or blasphemous. Don't expect too much from the speeches as some can be a bit poor, but nevertheless there can also be some great entertainment here!
