Sutton House is the main tourist attraction in the district of Hackney. It dates from 1535, which makes it the oldest surviving house in the whole of the East End of London.
It is named after the 17th century philanthropist Thomas Sutton who lived here. It has been a National Trust property since 1938, and it has been restored as an example of a 16th century London residence.
Sutton House is open between February to November. Opening hours are from 11.30am-5pm on Wednesdays and Sundays and from 2pm-5pm on Saturdays, it is closed for the rest of the week. Admission costs around £2 for adults, free to National Trust Members.
There is a vegetarian café available for refreshments. The house also has an art gallery and it is occasionally the venue for classical music concerts.
