Newcastle Arts Centre Newcastle Arts Centre is located on Westgate Road, to the south of the city centre and just north of the Central Railway Station. It is housed in a series of listed buildings that were once home to some of the city's wealthy merchants in the 18th century. First opened in 1988, the Arts Centre is now considered by many to be one of the city's best venues, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year. It hosts everything from art exhibitions to drama, music and cabaret evenings and regularly hosts workshops in areas such as ceramics and photography. And there is also a popular cellar bar called the Black Swan. Check with the Centre for details of upcoming events and exhibitions. Admission prices vary according to type of exhibition/performance.
