Nottingham Town Guide, Sherwood Forest, 7K
Nottingham Town Guide, 11K Sherwood Forest is of course, famous the world over for being home to Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

The forest was much more extensive in Robin's day, the 13th century, and today you would be forgiven for thinking that the forest wouldn't hide even one outlaw!

Nowadays you will have to visit the Sherwood Forest Visitor's Centre to get an idea of how the area once looked - appropriately enough it is situated right at the heart of the original Sherwood Forest.

Here you will find an exhibition where you can learn about life and the forest in Robin's day, and more about the man himself.

One of the forest's main attractions in today's Sherwood Forest Country Park is the Major Oak, reputed to be the very tree that hid Robin and his men from the evil Sheriff of Nottingham.

However recent examination of the bark reveals that it probably wasn't around in the 13th century - and if it were it would have been little more than an acorn!

The remaining Sherwood Forest is located about 20 miles to the north of Nottingham. There is a frequent bus service for those without cars.

Admission to the Sherwood Forest Country Park and to the Sherwood Forest Visitor's Centre is free. However there is a small admission charge for the exhibition.
