York Town Guide, White Rose of York, 1K Astronomical Observatory York Town Guide, White Rose of York, 1K

Situated in York's Museum Gardens, this small observatory was built in 1831 by the architect John Smeaton.

Interesting features include its rotating roof and of course its telescope, which at one time was the largest in the world.

The Observatory was recently restored and opened to the public, however light pollution from the nearby city centre means that it is hard to view the night sky properly from here.
