The York Story is a small local museum housed in the former church of St Mary's, Castlegate.

The church that you see today dates from around the 15th century and at 152ft high it has the tallest spire in York. In 1958 the building ceased to be used as a church and, rather than allow it to become derelict, it was converted into a museum.

This museum, the York Story, covers York's social history and it has an interesting collection of models dressed from different periods.

In the museum there are also tapestries, medieval artefacts and several good audio-visual presentations so it will appeal to children.

The York Story is open daily from 10am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 1pm to 5pm Sundays. Entry is around £2 for adults.
