Orientation in Stratford-upon-Avon

The easiest way to get your bearings in Stratford-upon-Avon is to use the River Avon as a landmark.

The city centre, and most of the town's tourist attractions, lie to the north of the river, most of which are within easy walking distance of each other.

You will find Stratford's three theatres (the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Swan Theatre and The Other Place) along the banks of the Avon.

And to the west of these, also close to the river bank, is Holy Trinity Church, which is where the Great Bard is buried.

Attractions such as Nash's House and New Place, Hall's Croft, and the World of Shakespeare are all located in the town centre, just to the north of the river.

The town's most popular attraction, the Shakespeare Birthplace Museum, is located further north again, but also within the city centre.

Some attractions, such as Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Mary Arden's House, are located a bit further afield. However there are regular bus services to these, so you needn't worry about transportation.

One thing worth remembering is that Stratford gets extremely busy, especially during the summer, and so parking can be very difficult. The best advice is to avoid using a car, and use public transport instead.
